30.11.2018 – 34 ROMA FAMILIES HAVE RECEIVED THE KEYS OF NEW HOUSING UNITS

O-o icoIn Odzaci, keys of newly built housing units have been handed over to residents of the segregated substandard Roma New Town, which will be resettled. The project was implemented by the Housing Center in cooperation with the Odzaci municipality, within the project "For Each Roma to Have a Home" funded by EU and co-financed by the Government of Republic of Serbia and Municipality Odžaci. The keys were given by the Minister of Transport, Civil Engineering and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia Zorana Mihajlović, the President of the Municipality of Odžaci Latinka Vasiljković and Branislava Žarković, Director of Housing Center.

34 residential buildings were built in the settlements of Bački Gračac, Bački Brestovac, Bogojevo, Lalić and Karavukovo, in the built tissue and in the vicinity of schools, kindergartens, ambulances, public transport and other services. The location of the place of residence was selected by each household for themselves, after a series of presentations and extensive consultations conducted by the Housing Center. In addition, Housing Center has developed architectural solutions and technical documentation needed for construction of buildings, obtained building permits, coordinated the beneficiary selection process, carried out procurement procedures and performed technical supervision during the construction process. Newly built facilities are equipped with electricity, water and sewage installations and basic furniture and equipment.

In the New Settlement near Bogojevo 34 households with 107 inhabitants, of which 40 are minors, live since 1965. in inadequate conditions. Moving to new housing will mean a lot for all residents, and especially for children who after decades of spatial and residential exclusion have the opportunity to regularly attend school and take active participation in community life. We believe that adequate living conditions will be the first step towards the real social inclusion of these families.

"The conditions there were a disaster, now we have much better conditions, we would not be able to build this kind of house, not even in dreams. It will be easier for us and our children, we will have better conditions, it will not be cold, there will be no moisture, "said Danijel Balog, one of the beneficiaries.
