17.9.2015 - SOUP KITCHEN IN ŠABAC SERVES MEALS FOR MOST VOULNERABLE AGAIN

nk-icoOn September 17th in Šabac ceremonial opening of the Soup kitchen reconstructed with support of the JTI Foundation in cooperation with the City of Šabac and Housing Center, was organized.

Soup kitchen facilities where 1050 meals were prepared for the most vulnerable citizens of Sabac were closed due to severe damages which were result of floods in May 2014.

14.8.2015 - HOUSING CENTER CONTINUES HOUSING SUPPORT TO FLOOD AFFECTED FAMILIES IN SERBIA

On August 3rd 2015 Housing Center together with Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) as a lead partner, Initiative for development and Cooperation (IDC), and Foundation Ana and Vlade Divac started implementation of the new project “Continuous support in housing reconstruction and economic revitalization of flood-affected areas in Serbia”. Funds in the amount of 3,3 million € are donated by the Delegation of European Union to the Republic of Serbiawithin the EU program

13.8.2015 - CONSTRUCTION of the 9 prefabricated houses for the families from collective centers in Bujanovac is completed

Buja-icoHanding-over 9 prefabricated houses (8 in Bujanovac and 1 in Smederevo) marked finalisation of construction works and begining of the works on infrastructural equipment of the houses. Families who are beneficiaries of this project (out of which 8 are Roma) are internally displaced persons who have been residing in collective centers in Bujanovac from 1999.

29.7.2015. - PRESS RELEASE ON THE OCCASION OF THREATENED FORCED EVITIONS IN INFORMAL ROMA SETTLEMENT

On 28.7.2015, the Housing Board of the Standing Conference of Roma Associations of Citizens (SKRUG), whose work is coordinated by Housing Center, published a press release on the occasion of the city government’s intention to carry out forced evictions of families living in informal settlement Grmeč in Belgrade. 

In this press release, SKRUG’s Housing Board opposes the forced evictions carried out in the way that is not in line with international standards, that is, without prior announcement, consultations and alternative accommodation

27.7.2015 - SOUP KITCHEN FACILITY IN ŠABAC OPERATIONAL AGAIN BY THE END OF AUGUST 2015

Sa-icoTechnical acceptance of the works on reconstruction and extension of the soup kitchen facilities in Šabac, heavily damaged in floods in May 2014, was performed on August 27th 2015. Technical acceptance Committee, established by the administration of the City of Šabac, had no objection, confirming thus high quality of performed works and the fact that they have been completed in full.

29.6.2015 - A VOLUNTEER FROM TURKEY DOING INTERNSHIP AT HOUSING CENTER

On 28.6.2015, Housing Center team was joined by Ilayda Sarp, a 21-year-old volunteer from Turkey. Ilayda is currently a sophomore student of architecture at Bilgi University in Istanbul, while her interests also encompass the sphere of social welfare, making her particulalry focused on the social dimension of architecture. 

In the folliwing 6-week period, Ilayda will be learning about Housing Center's mission and ongoing projects, whose scope of work she recognized as adequate for her further professional development.

22.6.2015 - HOUSING CENTER REPRESENTATIVES AT THE CONFERENCE ON HOMELESSNESS ORGANISED BY FEANTSA EUROPEAN NETWORK

In the period from 18.06.2015 to 20.06.2015, the Housing Center representatives Branislava Žarković and Milena Timotijević, took part in a conference titled Homelessness – a Local Phenomenon with a European Dimension – Key Steps to Connect Communities to Europe, organised by FEANTSA, the European network of organisations working with the homeless. The conference took place at the Paris City Hall, as well as on several locations on the territory of Paris where a number of working meetings, workshops, and visits to ongoing homelessness services were organised.

26.5.2015 - OPENING CEREMONY FOR SOCIAL HOUSING BUILDING IN ORLOVSKO NASELJE CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO HOUSING CENTER ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

ON icoThe social housing building with 12 flats for the most vulnerable Roma families displaced from Belville informal settlement in April 2012 has been ceremonially opened in Orlovsko naselje in Belgrade. Housing Center architects developed its architectural design and coordinated the development of the main project design, having respected all suggestions of the final beneficiaries obtained during the consultation workshops, and having guaranteed the quality of technical solutions and project documentation.

25.5.2015 - Housing center present Press Statement by UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing

BELGRADE (26 May 2015) – Serbia has undergone enormous challenges in the last two decades and is currently facing structural adjustment, high unemployment and poverty. All of this has created a housing crisis that must be responded to immediately. “Serbia urgently needs a national law on housing that fosters non-discrimination and inclusion and that complies with its international human rights obligations.
