16.9.2017 - STUDY VISIT IN BULGARIA WITHIN THE PROJECT „SPREADING COMMUNITY LIFE MODEL” (ERASMUS+)

The fifth meeting of partner organizations on the ERASMUS+ project “Spreading community life model" was held in Pravetz, Bulgaria, from 12 to 16 September 2017. Druring the study visit, we had the opportunity to get to know more about the local context in Bulgaria and good practice examples in improving the lives of beneficiaries belonging to socially vulnerable categories.

We talked with our partners about many of the topics that are common to us during these days – one of them was the impact of architectural solutions on the level of social integration of vulnerable groups. We visited Center for Social Integration and Rehabilitation – Family Accommodation for Disabled Children built within the EU program intended for deinstitutionalization of social care services. On the concrete case of this institution, we once again confirmed that the quality of the architectural solution significantly influences the quality of the services provided in the community. This Center, in which 15 disabled people are living and 20 staff is employed, is designed by the model of similar centers built in the Netherlands. Besides the accommodation, beneficiaries have the opportunity to get in touch with the community, daily activities, learning and working.

Besides other institutions and good practice examples, we also visited the object for protected housing "Sveti Ivan Rilski čudotvorac" in Pravetz - a model of Social Housing in Protected Environment adjusted to the context in Bulgaria. We were informed that the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of Bulgaria plans to expand this concept in a larger scale. We noted that there are similarities and differences between our two models of housing care for the most vulnerable citizens and that a parallel analysis of the service would help its improvement in both countries.

The study visit was attended by representatives of partner organizations: Fundacion Escuela de Solidaridad Granada, Spain; Cooperative Sociale Artemide, Latiano, Italy; Shqiptare e Urdhrite and Maltes, Shkodra, Albania; Ekologichno Sdruzhnie Prebalkan, Sofia, Bulgaria; Mary Seacole Housing Association, Luton, United Kingdom and Housing Center, Belgrade, Serbia.

The next meeting is scheduled for the first week of November 2017 in Granada, Spain.

The project "Spreading community life model" was funded by the EU under the ERASMUS + program.
