23.02.2017 - CONSTRUCTION OF TWO PAVILIONS IN RECEPTION CENTER FOR MIGRANTS IN SOMBOR COMPLETED

PTCSom icoHousing Center continues to support the provision of adequate shelter conditions for refugees and migrants from Syria and Middle East. Construction of two pavilions (dining room and multipurpose facility) in the Reception center for migrants in Sombor has just been completed. The construction works and equipping of these facilities are financed by the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) within the project “Enhancing Protection and Humanitarian Aid in fYRoM and Serbia” implemented by Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Housing Center.

By constructing of these two pavilions the capacity of the Reception center for migrants in Sombor has been increased to 166 beds (plus 68). At the same time, the overall accommodation conditions in the Center are improved. The newly constructed distribution of the kitchen and dining room building will allow distribution of meals prepared in the kitchen of the Red Cross and nutrition conditions in line with the standards. Other newly built facility is multi-purpose building and it will serve for various educational programs for children.

In a very short project timeframe, the professional team of Housing Center architects assessed the needs of migrants and infrastructural capacity of the site, developed preliminary architectural designs, supervised the development of the project technical documentation, facilitated obtaining building permits, conducted tendering procedures for the selection of contractors and suppliers of the equipment, performed technical supervision during the works execution, was responsible for the finances of the project and coordinated the technical acceptance and handover of works.

The total value of works is 157.825 Euro. The project implementation commenced on 04 November 2016 and was completed on 03 March 2017. Owner of the buildings is City of Sombor while Commissioner for Refugees is temporary user. Upon the end of the migrant crisis the complex will be returned to its basic function of children resort.
